Independent Special Schools

For a comparatively small number of children whose needs are not met by local day provision it is possible to get funding for residential independent provision inside or outside the local authority area. While there is a policy preference for mainstreaming, the Government has specifically exempted the UK from the UN Disability Convention so that a full range of provision can be available and so that parents can have a choice of school.
