Physiotherapy

The main purpose of physiotherapy is to restore or maintain function, activity and independence and to prevent ill health. This may be achieved through assessment and treatment processes and / or by providing advice on healthy lifestyles.

Following assessment, Physiotherapists set up and teach exercise programmes to improve overall health and well being. They encourage people with learning disabilities to take ownership of their own health needs.

Physiotherapists work as part of the Learning Disability Community Support Team for adults.
